Scenting the home

Bakhoor and incense sticks are the traditional way to fragrance a home in India and across the Arab world, burned before guests arrive, during prayers and at festivals. They carry the same oud, amber and resin materials found in our attars, released as fragrant smoke instead of worn on the skin.

Bakhoor or incense sticks?

Bakhoor is scented wood chips burned over charcoal or on an electric burner. It gives a dense, rich smoke that also perfumes clothes and hair, and comes in 250g and 500g jars. Incense sticks are simpler to use every day and give a lighter, slower scent.

Using them safely

Burn on a heat-proof surface away from curtains, never leave them unattended, and ventilate the room afterwards. A small amount of bakhoor goes a long way.
